WALTON AND WEYBRIDGE AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY

Our next production is "FIDDLER ON THE ROOF", to be performed at The Playhouse, Walton on Thames, Monday 1st to Saturday 6th December 2008 with a Saturday matinee.

"A Fiddler on the Roof! Sounds crazy, no?"
So begins the fascinating story of Tevye, a poor dairy farmer, and his wife Golde and five daughters in the little town of Anatevka in early 1900's Russia. A family in a small Jewish community in a land run by the Tsar. And a story of optimism in the face of change and adversity. A community which strives to be happy under extraordinary circumstances, held closely together by their faith, and their....... TRADITION! Without which, life would indeed be as shakey as a Fiddler on the Roof!

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is an entertaining show with well known songs: Tevye's "If I Were a Rich Man"; his daughters' "Matchmaker" song; "Miracle of Miracles" sung by Motel the Tailor; "L'Chaim" sung by Tevye and the ageing Lasar Wolfe- betrothed by the matchmaker to his daughter Tzeitel! And the beautiful "Sunrise Sunset" and "Sabbath Prayer" backed with chorale harmony are unforgettable.

It is a story where Tradition encounters change infiltrated from a 20th century western world; and where a peaceful village life faces the wrath of Tsarist rule.
An unforgettable show- watch here for details of how to order tickets soon.
